The Middle of Summer

This is the time of year when I'm rarely on the computer. Morning computer time is work oriented and evenings are spent enjoying the "Midnight Sun." Above is a picture taken of the midnight sun by an Anchorage woman at Eagle Summit. Located 108 miles from Fairbanks, this summit towers 3,624 feet high, well above the timberline..
If you click on the picture you can see all the bugs that were in the air when she snapped the photo. I'm surprised the mosquitoes didn't fly away with her camera! You'd NEVER see Katie outside in those buggy conditions!
The only time we've been to Eagle Summit is in the middle of winter when the wind was blowing and you had to follow close behind a snow plow to make it over the summit. A harrowing experience but worth it to visit our friends that ran the now closed, Arctic Circle Hot Springs. (50 miles south of the Arctic Circle.)
Life is busy and good. Katie and I had a great time on our road trip and camp experience. A much needed break from work.
I'm also looking forward to a trip to California in Sept. to visit family (both Rick's and mine) and do some job shadowing at 2 volunteer hospices.

Steve and I might drive to Eagle Summit tomorrow. We've never been past mile 50 on the Steese and want to see what's ahead... I heard the wildflowers are growing well up there. We'll see... it all depends on how we feel in the morning.

I've been checking out your blog and it's really COOL. We have an Alaskan cruise "planned" for the summer of 2011. (I'm a big planner) Anyway, even though it will just be a "snap-shot" of your great state, I'm sure we'll love it.

Take care,
